The leader of the Communist Party of the Russian Federation and Hero of Labor of Russia, Gennady Zyuganov, spoke with political observer Alexander Gamov from "KP".
…- Gennady Andreevich, last night we received sad news - Victor Alksnis has passed away. He was one of us, a trusted representative of the presidential candidate Pavel Grudinin, and he always opposed the destruction of the Soviet Union. Perhaps we could share a few warm words about him? Colonel Victor Alksnis…
- Well, I knew him well. Victor Alksnis was not just a colonel; he was a fighter who fought for the preservation of the Soviet state…
Sasha, can you hear me well? Are you recording?
- Yes.
- He fought for the preservation of the country. Ryzhkov then formed the faction of people's power, Kharitonov created the agrarian faction, and we had the Communist Party. We all worked together to pull the country through those difficult times.
Alksnis was quite energetic in his early speeches - he spoke professionally and competently, advocating for the preservation of the best Soviet traditions, friendship, and internationalism.
A man who lived in the Baltics, who witnessed its tragedy, understood that its industry and agriculture would be destroyed… There were rich fishing cooperatives there… He saw how everything was being destroyed, while the youth fled abroad to work as janitors. It pained him deeply; he suffered greatly because of it.
Of course, Victor Alksnis led a very active life. Sometimes he spoke from a harshly radical position. He was a military man who took an oath of loyalty to the USSR and was obligated to serve and fulfill his military duty until the end. In my opinion, he had every right to do so.
Let us pay our respects to his bright memory and his courageous struggle. And let us express a wish that we overcome the new onslaught. Victor understood what Nazism and fascism were; this vile ideology first took root in the Baltics, like a scab, like a cancerous tumor - and then began to spread.
What the Nazi-Bandera gang has led "native Ukraine" to is now evident to everyone. Thus, life has confirmed that Alksnis fought for a just cause.
- Thank you very much, Gennady Andreevich. Eternal memory to Colonel Alksnis…
