By region, the most significant price increase was observed in the Mangistau region at 10% and in Almaty at 7.7%. This is the first time in four years of available statistics that such a spike has been noted in both cases. On an annual basis, fast food prices in Kazakhstan rose by 12.9%, with the most notable increase recorded in Almaty at a staggering 27.4% year-on-year.
It has been reported that the cost of lunch in cafeterias also saw a considerable rise in December (+2.6%, a record since November 2022).
The highest price increase occurred in Almaty at +7.8%. On an annual basis, prices in Kazakhstan overall climbed by 12%, while in Almaty, the increase reached 24.9%.
The price of lunch in restaurants increased by 1% month-on-month, resulting in an annual rise of 8.7%. However, this reflects the national average, and the situation varies significantly by region. For instance, in the Karaganda region, the increase was +61.6% year-on-year, due to several spikes throughout 2024. The price of tea/coffee in cafes across Kazakhstan rose by 1.1% over the month and 6.9% over the year.
