"It’s very convenient": The Foreign Ministry comments on the extensive area designated for the U.S. consulate in Almaty.

Alibek Bakaev stated that the land allocation procedure for the embassy is a standard practice.

"Everything is happening on a priority basis. You can see that our embassy is also located abroad on territories that we have agreed upon within the framework of a bilateral agreement. Therefore, several embassies in Kazakhstan have quite large territories - this is a normal international practice. It is very convenient in terms of operations and is undoubtedly a matter of intergovernmental concern," he noted.

Regarding the location, he recommended directing such inquiries to the akimat.

"This issue is resolved through the signing of bilateral intergovernmental documents. The document has been signed and is undergoing ratification," the speaker added.

It is worth mentioning that a week ago, it was reported that the deputies of the Mazhilis, during a plenary session of the chamber, took up a draft law that involves leasing a plot of land in Almaty to the USA for the construction of a consular facility.

"The purpose of the agreement is to lease a land plot of over 70,000 square meters to the US government for a period of 49 years for the construction and operation of a US consular facility in the city of Almaty," said deputy Aigul Kuspan.

Additionally, according to information on the website of the RK embassy in the USA, diplomatic relations between the Republic of Kazakhstan and the United States of America were established on December 26, 1991.

The Kazakhstan Embassy in the USA was opened on October 30, 1992. Since April 2021, the ambassador of RK to the USA is Yerzhan Ashikbayev.
