According to the investigation, officials abused their powers by unlawfully entering into an additional agreement worth 3.9 million tenge for organizing cultural events in Zhezkazgan.
The court found them guilty. Anuar Omar was sentenced to six years and six months in prison. His accomplices received a one-year restriction of freedom as their punishment. Furthermore, all convicted individuals were permanently banned from holding positions in government bodies and the quasi-public sector. The sentence has not yet entered into legal force.
Previously, Anuar Omar had been tried twice for corruption. In March 2024, the court found him guilty of receiving a bribe of two million tenge for signing acts related to state procurement for conducting archaeological excavations in the ancient burial mounds of the Ulytau region. Alongside him, the head of the Center for the Protection of Historical and Cultural Heritage was also convicted.
In August 2024, Omar was convicted again—for embezzling 2.3 million tenge. He unlawfully transferred budget funds for the publication of collections of scientific articles, which ultimately were never published.
