“During operational search activities at the 'Turksib' station, eight railway tank cars filled with AI-92 gasoline, shipped from the mini-refinery 'Kara Mai Oil', were seized, totaling approximately 500 tons. The tank cars were en route to the Kyrgyz Republic,” the agency clarified.
In total, over 102,000 tons of fuel and lubricants have been illegally exported to the neighboring country from the specified mini-refinery during the years 2023-2024.
According to preliminary data, the shadow turnover of the criminal group over the past two years amounted to more than 15.5 billion tenge.
In the case of the illegal export of gasoline, three Kazakhs have been placed on an interstate wanted list. This concerns Alexey Popov (born in 1987, a native of Taraz), Rakhymzhan Ibraimov (born in 1996, a native of Uzbekistan), and Serik Sagyndykov (born in 1987, a native of the Zhambyl region). All three have been arrested in absentia.
Recently, the Ministry of Energy of the Republic of Kazakhstan proposed to extend the ban on the export of petroleum products from the country, including to the EAEU states, for another six months. This is due to the widespread gray export of fuel.
The ban on fuel exports from Kazakhstan was previously implemented due to a sharp increase in the consumption of AI-92 gasoline and diesel fuel: the demand for petroleum products rose as large quantities of fuel were being smuggled out of the country.
