The results of the beet harvest were summarized at a meeting held by the Government, chaired by Deputy Prime Minister Serik Zhumangarin. With an average yield of 535.5 centners per hectare, Kazakhstan has harvested approximately 1.3 million tons of sugar beets.
As of December 20, Kazakh sugar factories have processed 988.6 thousand tons of root vegetables: "Aksu Kant" – 351.7 thousand tons (including 39.3 thousand tons from the Zhambyl region), Koksu Sugar Plant – 252.6 thousand tons, and Merken Sugar Plant – 384.3 thousand tons. The remaining harvest is stored in piles by farmers, awaiting processing.
Half of the beet harvest, totaling 640 thousand tons, came from the Zhambyl region, where only the Merken Sugar Plant processes sugar beets. Based on its current capacity, it can process 450 thousand tons, while the Aksu Plant in the Zhetysu region can handle 100 thousand tons, and the remaining 90 thousand tons will be sent to Kyrgyz sugar factories.
This decision was made to ensure the processing of the entire harvested sugar beet crop. Agreements for uninterrupted acceptance, processing, and reverse sugar deliveries have been established at the government level between Kazakhstan and Kyrgyzstan. Moreover, farmers, regardless of which factory their beets were delivered to, will receive subsidies as per the current regulations, both from the akimats and the sugar factories.
