Since the beginning of December this year, more than 250 agricultural fairs have taken place in various regions of Kazakhstan, attracting around one million citizens.

This information was shared during a meeting focused on stabilizing prices for essential food products, chaired by Vice Prime Minister Serik Zhumangarin.

As highlighted by the First Deputy Minister of Trade and Integration Aizhan Bizhanova, the fairs have demonstrated a high demand among the population, with the volumes of products brought in being nearly sold out.

“The highest sales of potatoes occurred in Karaganda region – 110 tons, in Almaty – 90 tons, and in Shymkent, 45 tons of potatoes were sold during the festive weekend,” noted the First Deputy Minister.

Alongside the fairs, vegetables from stabilization funds are being supplied to regional markets. According to Vice Minister of Agriculture Ermek Kenzhekanuly, as of December 19, 9.2 thousand tons of potatoes, 2.6 thousand tons of carrots, 2.8 thousand tons of onions, and 2.1 thousand tons of cabbage have been sold from stabilization funds.

A schedule for the release of vegetables until May of this year was also presented at the meeting, taking into account the needs of each region.

As a result of the past week, the average index of price growth for social food products was 0.1%, and 1.1% since the beginning of the year.

Following the meeting, Serik Zhumangarin instructed to maintain the activity of conducting fairs and to strengthen control over compliance with trade legislation to prevent unreasonable price increases ahead of the New Year holidays.
