On December 19, a foundation-laying ceremony for a school took place in the Turkish city of Nurdağı, Gaziantep province, as reported by Kazpravda.kz.
According to the Kazakhstan Agency for International Development, KazAID, Gaziantep province is one of the most affected areas by the devastating earthquake that occurred on February 6, 2023. The new educational institution will serve as a symbol of Turkish-Kazakh brotherhood.
Attendees at the ceremony included the Ambassador of the Republic of Kazakhstan to Turkey, Yerkebulan Sapiyev, the Governor of Gaziantep province, Kemal Çeber, as well as representatives from the Turkish Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Ministry of Education, and the KazAID agency.
Earlier, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan expressed gratitude to Kazakhstan for its support at the summit of the Organization of Turkic States.
“I am confident that this school will become one of the symbols of Turkish-Kazakh brotherhood, which future generations will uphold. In the current global conditions, Turkic countries must strengthen their cooperation. Kazakhstan has taken significant steps, and this construction is a vivid testament to that,” he concluded.
As of December 19, 2024, the preparatory work for excavation and mobilization of construction resources has been completed.
The construction of the school in Gaziantep province represents a significant contribution from Kazakhstan to the recovery of the region most severely affected by the earthquake and serves as a prime example of the implementation of official development assistance.
