“The complete transition of Almaty’s TPP-2 to gas is expected to be finalized by 2026. The implementation of this project will lead to a reduction in harmful emissions from TPP-2 from 37.3 to 2.7 thousand tons per year,” the minister stated.
He also mentioned that discussions are underway to address the gas shortage in the region.
Currently, gas consumption in the city of Almaty and the Almaty region during peak periods reaches up to 800 thousand m3/h, which is the maximum under the current scheme and condition of the gas pipeline in the southern region. Gas consumption in the region is anticipated to rise to 2 million m3/h in the near future, considering the gasification of Almaty’s TPPs.
To ensure the gas transportation infrastructure for Almaty’s TPPs, project documentation is being developed for the construction of a bypass TIP-04 between the main gas pipelines “Kazakhstan-China” and “Almaty-Bayserke-Talgar,” the second line of the main gas pipeline “Almaty-Bayserke-Talgar,” and the gas distribution stations for TPP-2 and TPP-3.
“All the mentioned issues are under constant government control,” the minister concluded.
