Authorities in Almaty confiscated equipment used for generating mass phone calls.

“During operational activities, it was established that equipment intended for substituting subscriber numbers, generating mass calls, and sending messages was located in a rented apartment of a foreign citizen. At the time of seizure, more than 120 SIM cards from a Kazakhstani telecommunications operator were installed in the Sim-Box. The detained individual explained that he found this job through social media and arrived in Almaty with the equipment in early December, receiving instructions from unknown persons,” stated the Almaty city prosecutor's office.

An investigation has been initiated regarding this matter under Article 213 of the Criminal Code of the Republic of Kazakhstan (“Unauthorized use of programs that alter the identification code of a subscriber device”).

“Since November of this year, this is already the third identified case of Sim-Box equipment usage. The Almaty city prosecutor's office urges citizens to remain vigilant, not to agree to dubious job offers promising easy earnings, and to report any suspicious activities to law enforcement agencies,” added the supervisory authority.
